Our deepest level of sedation, delivered and monitored in-house, for longer procedures and significant anxiety.
What You Need To Know
IV Sedation in Hudson and Port Richey
For the deepest level of comfort we offer, Dr. Jaime Estrada provides IV sedation in-house at Estrada Dentistry. Sometimes called sleep dentistry, it is the right choice when anxiety runs high or a procedure is long enough that you would simply rather not be present for it. Patients across Hudson and Port Richey, Florida, choose IV sedation when they want to settle into a calm, sleepy state and let us take care of the rest.
How IV Sedation Works
The sedative is delivered directly through a small line in a vein, which is what makes it the most effective and the most precisely controlled option. Because it works through the bloodstream, it takes effect quickly and Dr. Estrada can adjust the level moment to moment throughout your visit. Most patients enter a deeply relaxed, drowsy state and remember little or nothing of the procedure afterward, even though they are not fully unconscious.
Care and Monitoring You Can Trust
Because IV sedation is our deepest level, it comes with the closest attention. Dr. Estrada administers and monitors it himself, right here in our office, so your care stays with the dentist who knows you rather than being handed off elsewhere. We review your medical history and medications carefully beforehand, watch you closely the entire time, and keep the dose matched to you. You will need a trusted adult to drive you home and stay with you while the sedation fully wears off, and we send you home with clear aftercare instructions.
When IV Sedation Makes Sense
IV sedation is especially well suited to longer restorative visits, oral surgery and extractions, placing dental implants, and significant dental anxiety that lighter options cannot fully settle. It also lets us combine several treatments into one comfortable appointment, so you go through a single recovery instead of many visits. If a gentler approach would serve you just as well, Dr. Estrada will say so and may suggest nitrous oxide or oral sedation instead.
Recovering Afterward
Because IV sedation is deeper, it takes longer to clear than the lighter options. You will feel drowsy for the rest of the day, so plan to rest at home with the adult who drove you, skip driving and work, and eat lightly as the grogginess fades. Most people feel back to normal by the next morning. We send you home with written aftercare so there is no guesswork.
