Choosing a family dentist comes down to a handful of practical questions: do they treat every age, what is their approach to comfort and anxiety, how do they handle emergencies, and do they fit your schedule. A good fit is a practice you will actually keep going back to, which is the whole point of preventive care. Here are ten questions worth asking before you book, and how we answer them at Estrada Dentistry.
1. Do they treat patients of all ages?
A true family dentist can care for your kids, you, and your parents under one roof, which saves you driving all over town. Ask whether they are comfortable with young children as well as older adults who may need implants or dentures.
2. What services do they offer in-house?
The more a practice handles itself, the fewer referrals you will need elsewhere. Ask whether they do cleanings, fillings, crowns, implants, and surgery in-house. You can see the full range we offer on our services page.
3. How do they handle nervous patients?
If you or your kids get anxious, this matters a lot. Ask what they do to keep patients comfortable, including sedation options. Our approach combines a calming environment with sedation when needed, which we describe in our post on dental anxiety.
4. What happens in an emergency?
Dental emergencies do not wait for business hours. Ask how the practice handles urgent problems like a knocked-out tooth or sudden swelling. Our guide on what to do in a dental emergency shows how we think about it.
5. Do they take your insurance, and offer financing?
Ask which plans they work with and what financing they offer for larger treatment. A good practice helps you understand your benefits rather than leaving you to decode them on your own, and is upfront about your options before any work begins.
6. How experienced is the dentist?
Years in practice and a steady reputation tell you a lot. Dr. Estrada has more than 30 years of experience caring for families in this area, which is the kind of track record worth asking about.
7. Where are they located and is it convenient?
A dentist you can reach easily is a dentist you will actually visit. We have two offices, in Hudson and Port Richey, serving the surrounding communities including Trinity, New Port Richey, Holiday, Land O' Lakes, and Spring Hill. Pick whichever is closest to home or work.
8. What is their approach to your overall health?
Some patients want a more natural, whole-body approach to dental care. If that is you, ask about it. We offer holistic options like mercury-free care and ozone therapy, which we explain in our post on holistic and biological dentistry.
9. Do they explain things clearly?
You should leave an appointment understanding what is going on in your mouth and what your options are. A practice that rushes you or talks over your head is a red flag. Clear, honest communication is something to look for from the first phone call.
10. How does the office feel?
Trust your gut on this one. Is the team friendly? Does the place feel calm and clean? Do they treat you like a person rather than a number? You will be coming back twice a year for a long time, so the feel of the place is not a small thing.
Come see if we are the right fit
The best way to answer all ten of these is to come in and experience it. We would be glad to meet your family and show you how we work. Call 727-869-3886 or reach out through our contact page to set up your first visit.
