Your first visit to Estrada Dentistry is mostly about getting to know you and your mouth. You will fill out some paperwork, have an exam and likely x-rays, get a cleaning if appropriate, and sit down with Dr. Estrada to talk through anything you need. Knowing the order of events ahead of time takes the mystery out of it, especially if it has been a while since your last dentist. Here is what to expect and how to prepare.

Before you arrive

A few simple things make the visit go smoothly. To save time, you can ask whether new patient forms are available to fill out ahead. Bring your photo ID, your insurance card if you have dental coverage, and a list of any medications you take. If you have dental records or x-rays from a previous dentist, having those sent over ahead of time is helpful but not required.

What to bring

  • Photo ID
  • Dental insurance card, if you have one
  • A list of your current medications
  • Any questions or concerns you want to raise

Checking in

When you arrive, you will finish any remaining paperwork, including your health history. This history matters more than people expect, because conditions and medications can affect your dental care, so it is worth filling out fully. Then you will be brought back for your exam.

The exam and x-rays

Dr. Estrada will examine your teeth, gums, and bite, looking for cavities, gum issues, and anything else that needs attention. Most first visits include x-rays, which show what is happening below the surface, like decay between teeth or bone health, that an exam alone cannot catch. Our digital x-rays are quick and use very low radiation. We explain why in our post on why dental x-rays matter.

Your cleaning

If your gums are healthy, you will usually get a cleaning at this visit to remove plaque and tartar that brushing cannot reach. If there are signs of gum disease, we may recommend a deeper cleaning instead, which is its own focused treatment. Either way, we will explain what we are doing and why.

Talking through your care

This is the part that matters most. Dr. Estrada will go over what he found and lay out any treatment you need, in plain language, along with your options. This is your chance to ask anything, raise any concerns, and decide what you want to do. Nothing gets done without you understanding it first. If you are anxious about any of it, tell us, because we have plenty of ways to make you comfortable, which we cover in our post on dental anxiety.

Insurance and payment

Our team will help you understand your benefits and your options before you commit to anything, and we offer financing if you would like to spread treatment out. The goal is no surprises, so you always know where you stand before any work begins.

Two convenient offices

We have locations in Hudson and Port Richey, serving the surrounding communities. Pick whichever is easier for you, and we will see you there.
