A CEREC crown is a porcelain dental crown designed, milled, and placed in a single visit using digital scanning. How a Same Day Crown Is Made
The traditional way to make a crown takes two appointments, a putty impression, a temporary crown, and a wait of a couple of weeks while a lab builds the final one. CEREC replaces all of that. Dr. Estrada shapes the tooth, takes a digital scan with a small camera, and designs the crown on screen to fit your bite. A milling unit in the office then carves the crown out of a single block of dental ceramic, and once it is glazed and polished he bonds it in. You leave with the permanent crown the same day.
CEREC or a Traditional Crown?
Same day crowns suit most everyday cases: a cracked tooth, a large old filling that is failing, or a tooth weakened by decay. For some situations, a few specific shades or a tooth under heavy bite stress, a lab-made dental crown is still the better tool, and Dr. Estrada offers that as well. Caring for Your Crown
A CEREC crown is cared for like any crown: brush, floss around it, and keep your checkups so Dr. Estrada can watch the tooth underneath. If you grind your teeth at night, ask about a night guard, since grinding wears on porcelain over time. With normal care a same day crown lasts for years, the same as a lab-made one.
