A Custom Crown in One Visit with CEREC

A CEREC crown is a porcelain dental crown designed, milled, and placed in a single visit using digital scanning. A crown used to mean two visits, a tray of goop for the mold, and two weeks in a temporary that always seemed to pop off at dinner. A CEREC crown skips all of that: the scan, the design, and the milling happen while you wait. Dr. Jaime Estrada uses it to restore cracked, worn, and decayed teeth for patients across Pasco and Hernando counties.

How a Same Day Crown Is Made

The traditional way to make a crown takes two appointments, a putty impression, a temporary crown, and a wait of a couple of weeks while a lab builds the final one. CEREC replaces all of that. Dr. Estrada shapes the tooth, takes a digital scan with a small camera, and designs the crown on screen to fit your bite. A milling unit in the office then carves the crown out of a single block of dental ceramic, and once it is glazed and polished he bonds it in. You leave with the permanent crown the same day.

CEREC or a Traditional Crown?

Same day crowns suit most everyday cases: a cracked tooth, a large old filling that is failing, or a tooth weakened by decay. For some situations, a few specific shades or a tooth under heavy bite stress, a lab-made dental crown is still the better tool, and Dr. Estrada offers that as well. He will tell you which one fits the tooth at your visit.

What the Digital Scan Replaces

If you have had a crown the old way, you probably remember the tray of impression material you had to bite into and hold still. The CEREC camera replaces that with a quick scan, which is more comfortable, easier on a sensitive gag reflex, and more precise, since the design is built from an exact digital model of your tooth. That accuracy is part of why a well fitted same day crown seats cleanly and feels right when you bite.

Caring for Your Crown

A CEREC crown is cared for like any crown: brush, floss around it, and keep your checkups so Dr. Estrada can watch the tooth underneath. If you grind your teeth at night, ask about a night guard, since grinding wears on porcelain over time. With normal care a same day crown lasts for years, the same as a lab-made one. It is one of the conveniences our cosmetic dentistry patients mention most.

Frequently Asked Questions About CEREC Same Day Crowns

Yes. CEREC technology lets Dr. Estrada design and create your custom porcelain crown right in the office, so it can be placed the same day with no temporary crown and no second trip.

They are. CEREC crowns are made from durable, tooth colored porcelain built to handle everyday chewing and last for years, all with a natural, lifelike look.

A crown can restore a cracked tooth, replace a large old filling, or strengthen a tooth weakened by decay. Dr. Estrada will let you know if a same day crown is the right fit for your tooth.

Care for a same day crown exactly like your natural teeth, with daily brushing and flossing around the gumline. The ceramic resists staining well, but the tooth underneath can still decay, so consistent home care matters. Avoid chewing ice or very hard items, and keep your routine checkups so Dr. Estrada can confirm the crown stays well fitted.
